Well today we got he kids up early and everyone got to the Bus on time for the first day of School. Back into the routine of life. My daughter, Lauren, has 3 dance classes per week and Connor is playing football – 3 practices per week and a game every Saturday. I have committed to be the announcer for all of the home games. I enjoy it and I get to see the action from up in the booth. Life kicks in. Life distracts us. As a REALTOR we cannot just go punch a clock for 8 hours and trade time for money and then allow life to run the rest of our hours in a day. I am working on my GST remittances today and separating receipts to keep my tax stuff in order. Then later today I am working on some preparation for my training program called CLUB 100. I will touch base with some leads for listings and try to get them closed as well. I have to meetings in the afternoon. One in Chilliwack at the office and the other in Abbotsford. See I am just like you. I have a busy life. Other distractions but I have to make every day count.
The reason we chose Real Estate as a career is because we don’t want to live like that. Punching a clock is not for us. We want more. We want to be challenged more. We want to steer our own ship. We decide whether the ship sails or not. We have to do the repairs to keep the ship in order. We decide what time the ship leaves the dock. We deal with the stormy seas and either survive or not. We have to keep the lookout for the goal (Land Ho!!). It is us. We are at the helm. We steer the ship. We make all of the decisions. When we take a break. When we eat. What activities we do in a day. It all boils down to us. What does your ship look like? What time did you set sail today?
It is 7:15 and I have been awake for an hour. I made coffee for my wife and I, and chatted with my kids for a bit and came down to my office and cleared out my email inbox and decided to BLOG. My thoughts have been heavy over the last couple of weeks, thinking about the next 4 months. We set goals at the beginning of the year. I thought they were very achievable. We are behind on our goals.
CHALLENGES - 2013 has been a tough year for us. We have experienced more collapsed deals than any other year. We have done the work. Provided first class service. Brought most deals to 85-90% and then Kabooom! If all off those deals came together, we would be exceeding our goals – – – -but they didn’t. Not our fault. Various reasons that I obviously can’t talk about here in this BLOG but some of the reasons are unimaginable. It has been tough. We go through all of the emotions and frustrations just like you. Can you relate?
However, we have closed deals consistently this year. Not as many as we had planned but consistent none-the-less. That is successful. This is good. But the reason we have a consistent business is because we produce consistent effort. You see, I cannot control, the Real Estate Market; the NEWS; the Prices; deals Blowing up; kids karate kicking my signs; Buyers changing their minds etc etc etc…..I cannot control those things. BUT I can control what I do in a day.
That is 100% up to me. Only me. Nobody else. If I fail or succeed that is on me. Nobody else. Those other Challenges that I shared with you are simply that. Challenges. Challenges can be overcome. Or they simply are what they are – a challenge. That is it. It can’t be changed. Whining and Crying about it. Dwelling on it mentally. Talking to all of my co-workers. Writing about it in a BLOG. Does not change the facts. It will never change those facts.
IF YOU……
If you consider yourself less than successful. If you look at your business right now and think that you are failing. If you get up every day and do not know what to do to get your business going. If you can’t seem to get your phone ringing. If you think that you are better at repelling people than attracting them. If you feel like the whole world is against you right now. If you are increasing your debt every month. If you feel like your office is not helping you. If you can’t stand the First of every Month because that is when all the bills come in. and you are a REALTOR…..I can relate to you. I have been there. I can help. BUT YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE NOT ALONE. BUT YOU HAVE TO GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON. LIKE NOW. RIGHT NOW. – – – – – – – – NOW.
From now on when you fall down , you FALL forward. You get up and you keep going. You create a new habit of excitement in your day. You have the power. If you have $20,000 in debt….that is 4 deals. You can do it. 4 extra deals over the next 60 days. You can do it.
Thinking and dwelling on the past challenges does not serve you in any way. It only hurts you actually. STOP IT!
1) Get up early 2) BE on time for everything 3) Communicate with people (past and present) 4) Follow through on details 5) Have written Goals 6) Track your progress
7) Learn from the Best 8) Get plenty of help
Focus only on what you can control and that is YOU.
